We will encourage students to develop an understanding of computer systems, software, hardware and communications and the ability to apply such skills and knowledge to problem solving and resolutions.

Computing is essential in today’s world, so this course can provide its students with a necessary foundation whether they choose to go into further study in Higher Education or whether they choose to seek employment in areas that utilise computing.

What will I study?

Qualification: A-level Computer Science

Exam board: OCR

You will be assessed through a series of exams.

Component 1: Computer Systems 40%
Learners will study software and its development as well as date types and the use of Boolean algebra

Component 2: Algorithms and Programming 40%
Learners will develop computational thinking skills as well as programming and problem solving. They will also study algorithm design and efficiency

Component 3: Programming Project 20%
Learners will need to analyse the problem, design a solution, implement the solution and give a thorough evaluation
