At Ryburn Sixth we strive to help you develop you full potential by providing you with the help and the individual support to gain the knowledge and the skills that can be applied in the everyday world.

You will develop skills in problem solving which is essential in expressing ideas about the physical world, but also for those everyday moments. Our science department has been working hard to make sure that all students achieve excellent grades across the department. We aim to teach you how to best use theories, models and ideas to develop scientific explanations as well as understanding and posing scientific questions and arguments.

This qualification can lead to further in-depth study of the subject at higher education level as well as degrees in the pure sciences, engineering and medicine. This allows a world of professional careers to open up in science, technology, transport, engineering, medical care and even TV and the media.

 

What will I study?

Qualification: A-level Physics

Exam board: AQA

Entry Requirement: Grade 6 in Physics or 6,6 in Combined Science, Grade 6 in Mathematics. Students must have studied higher tier maths at GCSE.

Year 1:
- Measurements and their Errors
- Particles and Radiation
- Waves
- Mechanics and Energy
- Electricity

Year 2:
- Further Mechanics and Thermal Physics
- Fields
- Nuclear Physics
- One option from: Astrophysics, Medical Physics, Engineering Physics, Turning Points in Physics and Electronics.

You will complete a set of practicals leading to a practical endorsement.
