Choose Ryburn Sixth for your course in Religious Studies. This course is designed to inspire you to think about Religion and its place in the wider world.

Our course will strive to help you develop a deeper knowledge and understanding of themes and issues relating to Christianity, Philosophy of Religion and Ethics. The course includes application of ethical theories to contempoary issues, including abortion and euthanasia. The philosophical element looks at a variety of topics including arguments for and against the existence of God, and the problem of evil.

You will develop skills in critical and reflective study as well as text interpretation and how to construct well informed and reasoned arguments about religion and beliefs. This course provides students with an alternative, spiritual and balanced approach to life. At Ryburn Sixth we offer you excellent, positive teaching which will help you to strive to reach your full potential through interesting classes as well as nurturing individual support.

This course will prepare students for careers which require sensitivity, tolerance and respect for different cultures and the environment, for example teaching, police and conservation work. It will also help students entering higher education with a focus on subjects such as; law, medicine, social work and politics.

 

What will I study?

Qualification: A-level Religious Studies

Exam board: EDUQAS

Component 1: A study of Religion
Learners will study about their chosen religion covering themes ranging from religious figures and sacred texts to practises that shape religious identity.

Component 2: Philosophy of Religion
Learners will study in-depth about the fundamental philosophical themes, ranging from arguments for the existence of God, the use of religious language, and the challenges presented by the existence of evil and suffering and psychology.

Component 3: Religion and Ethics
Learners will develop an understanding for ethical themes such as: ethical language and thought to freewill, determinism, ethical systems, and issues such as abortion, animal experimentation and polyamorous relationships.

You will be assessed with a series of written examinations.
